The College of Commercial Arbitrators Supports the Rule of Law

Austin, TX – The College of Commercial Arbitrators, a fellowship of over 200 leading commercial arbitrators, writes to reaffirm basic principles and values.

The Rule of Law, due process, and adherence to the United States Constitution is fundamental to our system of government and way of life. As arbitrators, we apply and contribute to the Rule of Law in all our work.

Within our fellowship, we may disagree about issues and policies. But we all agree that:

  • Judges should never be attacked by government officials or threatened with impeachment for issuing opinions with which the government disagrees.
  • The government should not punish law firms or lawyers because they represent clients whom the government dislikes, bring lawsuits that challenge government policies, or hire lawyers who have been critical of government officials. Lawfully and ethically advocating for clients is foundational to our legal system.
  • Seeking to destroy law firms by threatening their clients with loss of government contracts undermines the Rule of Law and must be stopped.
